Why Trying Something Terrifying Might Be the Best Thing You Do

From Fear to the Stage: How Stand-Up Comedy Taught Me About Courage

Kristine Casart Standup Life Coach McCurdy's Comedy Theater in Sarasota Florida

If you had told me a year ago that I would stand under the bright lights of a comedy club, microphone in hand, telling jokes to a room full of strangers—I would have laughed (pun intended). And yet, here I am, sharing the video of my first-ever stand-up comedy performance.

It was one of the scariest and most thrilling things I’ve done in a long time. For weeks leading up to it, I considered backing out. My body even tried to create excuses—aches, fatigue, anything to get me off the hook. But somewhere inside, I knew that if I let fear win, I would miss out on something extraordinary.

How I Got Here

This moment didn’t come out of nowhere. It was seeded through the personal growth work I’ve been doing with The Artist’s Way, my journey as a life coach, and the encouragement of the incredible community at Movers & Shakers.

In fact, it was during our Decoded Workshop that I felt the spark to sign up for a stand-up comedy boot camp. Something about being surrounded by women stepping into their power gave me the courage to try something that terrified me.

Comedy, much like life, is about taking risks, connecting with others, and being fully present. It asks you to trust your voice, own your story, and step into the unknown. And when I finally walked on stage, I felt more alive than I had in years.

What’s Your “Comedy Stage”?

For me, it was comedy. For you, it might be:

  • Starting that business you’ve been dreaming of

  • Writing the first page of your book

  • Signing up for a class that scares you a little

  • Finally asking for what you really want in life

The stage looks different for everyone—but the courage it takes to step onto it is the same.

How Life Coaching Can Help

As a certified life coach, I support people who are ready to move through fear, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs so they can:

  • Discover clarity and confidence

  • Explore creativity and purpose

  • Build momentum toward meaningful goals

  • Feel more connected to themselves and others

Just like I had support leading me to the comedy stage, you don’t have to take your leap alone.
